Thursday at Girls Plus Math Camp

Last full day of camp!:( YAY!!! So to start off the day we learned about Maryam Mirzakhani who was born in Tehran, Iran in May 1977 and still living. Math was very difficult in middle school and she became a professor at Princeton and Stanford University. Maryam won many awards and won the first female Fields Medal in 2014. She is also married and has a daughter named Anahita. After that we did some small critically thinking that you can annoy with friends and parents.:) Then we looked at Probability and Statistics with a packet of problems. We got a fun little word search on Polynomials. Before snack we did some more learning on Pascel's Triangle plus another Math Olymaid 4. Best part of the day was when Catherine Miller Hunt came back and we got to look at virus and bacteria under the microscope and white and red blood cells!!!! Then we went to see Dr. Tom Blackford and he talked about error correcting codes and cryptography. Last but not least we went to the computer lab and wrote on our blogs then had a little contest of who had the best and most creative polynomiography!!!!!!! 3rd day at math camp was OK?!..... first we started off the day with Maria Agnesi. she was born in 1718 and died at 1799. Maria's mother died and that meant she had to teach her younger siblings (21 of them). At the age of 20 she gathered together a collection of 200. She also wrote a book Instituzioni Analitiche. After that we looked at a really cool website called sporcle and played a few games with Beth. After that fun website we looked at Fibonacci and measured our partners and toke the math and divide the measurements of their face. Then we played a game called Masterminds, that game is soooooo fun!!!!!!! After that game we did another Math Olympiad 3. After lunch we learned about Pentominoes and made 12 squares out of 5 squares, if that even makes sense?..... Then made a 8 by 8 square with a 2 by 2 square left out of the 8 by 8 square. The by the end of the day we walked to the computer lab and did computer exercises and last but not least wrote our Blogs!!!!!! mastermind  pentominoes

Second day at math camp was great!! First we started off the day with Ada Byron Lovelace. Ada was born in 1815 and died in 1852 because of cancer that was unnecessary bloodletting by her doctors. she enjoyed dancing, horse back riding, and she was also a gymnast. She was gifted at the age of 8 at building model boats and at the age of 13 she designed a flying machine. After that we learned how to do algebra tile. While working will those we also talked about solving equation, multiplying polynomials, and factoring polynomials. Before we had lunch we learned about The Counting Principle. The Counting Principle is when there are "m" ways to do one thing, and "n" ways to do another, there are "m" and "n" ways to do bot. After lunch we talked about Polyhedra which are 3d shapes and the sides of the shapes at polygons. we also did more math questions again on math Olympiad 2. After that we talked about Pascel's Triangles who were invented by Blaise Pascal who only lived 39 years. Very last thing we had today which was great to listen to was Catherine Miller-Hunt who talked about STEM and how important it is to stay in school and that math is and everyday thing that you use in jobs and school. Then last but not least we got to write on our blogs!!!!

Today at math camp we learned many different things. Most of the things we learned I will be blogging about. First to start off the day we learned about Hypatia, Hypatia is not like other women. she was born in 300 A.D. and murdered in 415 A.D. She has always dressed like a scholar and was the first mathematician. Then after that what we learned about was Venn Diagrams. When we were working with Venn Diagrams we sorted numbers and also played a game with some classmates. We also learned about how to do sets. when we did sets we did a packet with Beth. Bfore we ate lunch we learned some new vocab words and then after lunch played a card game named set. the card game set was pretty fun to play. I hope i get to play it again. Last but not least what we did today is went to the computer lab and played a little with Polynomiograph. after that we got to write our blog!!!!!
